Partnering to support your student’s success

Feb. 2026

DSC_1795

Greetings!

Each spring semester tends to begin swiftly in all phases of the student experience; we hit the ground running! Our faculty are eager to connect with students and quickly find the rhythm of their spring courses. Outside of the classroom, The Eisner Center is bustling with events and performances and The Mitchell Center plays host to a number of competitions. February is a great time for students to continue to be engaged in campus life and renew and extend their connections with faculty and staff. Staying engaged helps students combat these cold days and continue to feel connected to the warmth and vibrancy of campus life. And, before we know it, it will be March and spring break will be upon us!

Thank you for your continued support of your student and Denison; we are grateful for your partnership.

With gratitude,

Ryan Brechbill P’28, P’30
Director, Engagement Programs

Highlights from The Hill

Academic innovation continues to accelerate at Denison

Denison has remained at the forefront of academic innovation by developing new curricular pathways for students while staying true to its liberal arts mission and values. Now the college is set to add a finance major, minors in machine learning and artificial intelligence, organizational strategy and leadership, and a sports analytics domain within its popular data analtyics program. Denison seniors exercise career-building muscles at boot camp

Nearly 100 seniors returned from winter break early to take part in the Knowlton Center's Career Ready Boot Camp. The three days included mock interviews, resume writing workshops, and the chance to network with more than 40 alums and friends of Denison. Read more about how seniors got a jump start on the career search ahead of their final semester on The Hill.

Spring Semester opportunities with the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration

Big Red Career Expo

On Thursday, Feb. 5, the Knowlton Center will host the Big Red Career Expo from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mitchell Center, bringing more than 50 employers and graduate programs to campus across healthcare, wellness, social impact, education, government, the arts, and clinical research.

Students will have the opportunity to explore internships, full-time positions, and graduate study options, while first- and second-year students can gain insight by attending the Internship Showcase. We encourage you to remind your student to register on Handshake and participate in the biggest career event of the semester.

Denison Edge

Spring Denison Edge programs are open for registration! From finance, marketing and communications, business, analytics, logistics, and more, there's something to support the early career goals for every student! Taught by industry professionals with their fingers on the pulse of current workplace trends, these programs are FREE for students and transportation is provided when the program is taught off campus. Students can register through Knowlton Connect, Handshake, or directly through the site.

First-Year Survey

On Monday, Feb. 2, first-year students received a link to the Week 3 First-Year Experience survey. Each semester, the Office of First-Year Experience sends out this brief survey during the third week of classes to collect feedback that is then used to offer support and improve the student experience. Please encourage your first-year student to complete this brief survey by Friday, Feb. 6.

The Arts at Denison

The Vail Series presents ‘The Other Mozart’ | Wednesday, Feb. 11

“The Other Mozart” is an award-winning play telling the true, forgotten story of Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Amadeus — a prodigy, keyboard virtuoso, and composer, who performed throughout Europe with her brother to equal acclaim, but her work and her story faded away, lost to history. Get your tickets.

Bluegrass & American Roots Festival | Feb. 20 & Feb. 21, 7 p.m.

The Department of Music presents the 21st Annual Bluegrass and American Roots Festival, featuring Kenny and Amanda Smith on Friday night and East Nash Grass on Saturday night. Each concert opens with a short set by Denison's Bluegrass and American Roots Ensemble, directed by Adam Schlenker. Save your spot.

Turn a business challenge into a learning experience

Denison Consulting, supported by the Red Frame Lab, partners organizations with student consulting teams to tackle real business challenges — at low cost and high return. Each semester, a team of six carefully selected undergraduates, guided by a partner-level consulting professional, delivers data-driven insights and actionable recommendations tailored to your goals.

Since 2020, Denison Consulting has completed more than 150 engagements with Fortune 500 companies, startups, and nonprofits. The program is an ideal fit for alumni-, parent-, and family-affiliated organizations seeking fresh perspectives on strategic, operational, or growth-oriented challenges — creating a high-impact partnership that benefits both clients and students.

Alternative Spring Break Community Service experiences are a great way for students to get off The Hill, travel to serve communities, find belonging and connection with peers, build relationships with faculty and staff, and learn about ethical and effective community service. We have some remaining spaces in one of our experiences happening this March.

In West Virginia, students will learn about leadership in Appalachian communities, work with community leaders, and work on service projects. There is a $100 registration fee per student, and the remaining student expenses (housing, food, and travel) are covered. Applications are due Feb. 13 Students should contact Emily Vermillion, CLIC associate director, at vermillione@denison.edu with questions.

Big Red Athletics on the road

Late February and early March will have many of our athletic teams on the road for training and competition! Check here to see if Denison athletics will be in your neck of the woods and show your Big Red pride! You can always watch our teams in action on the Denison Sports Network.
